Big Fish, Little Fish, Cardboard Box Not Included

I Love 1991 - Classic Old Skool

This was given away free with Mixmag in 2001. It kicks off with, "Yeah check this next track out. You've got Asterix in space. Watch your bass bins, I'm telling ya." and then Altern 8's breakbeat hardcore classic explodes in a hurricane of Roland 808 bleeps. On the inside cover it does say, "The tracks on this CD were made on cheap gear and mixed on dusty ten-year old equipment so any crackles, pops or distortion are meant to be there." So even though this has been ripped at 320kbps the sound is slightly crackly at times but I didn't notice after a while because I was too busy waving my hands in the air while jumping around the house. I don't remember ever hearing the GTO's The Bullfrg back in 1991 but it's now my favourite track of all time becasue it has Sinclair Spectrum noises in the background. The Psychopaths's Nightmares is also amazing.

The tracklisting printed on the back of the CD is slightly wrong and has The Shamen and Sueno Latino written in the wrong order. This is the correct list:

1) Altern 8 - Infiltrate 202 (6:04)
2) New Atlantic - I Know (6:05)
3) React 2 Rhythm Intoxication (Leftfield Remix) (4:49)
4) Fortran 5 - Look To The Future (5:04)
5) Renegade Soundwave - The Phantom (2:55)
6) Scientist, The - The Bee (5:54)
7) Impedance - Tainted Love (3:23)
8) Shamen, The - Move Any Mountain (Beat Edit) (3:05)
9) Sueño Latino Sueno Latino (6:13)
10) GTO - The Bullfrog (5:25)
11) Joey Beltram - My Sound (1:48)
12) Psychopaths, The - Nightmares (2:41)
13) Ramirez - La Musica Tremenda (4:28)
14) Rising High Collective - Fever Called Love (7:46)
15) Nightmares On Wax - Dextrous (3:49)

The Cartoon Rave Ep

In 1991 the UK was traumatised by Rave exploding into the mainstream. Here are four examples of Rave tunes that sampled nostaglic TV samples and implied illegality.

1) A Trip To Trumpton - Shaft
2) Charley - The Prodigy
3) Sesame's Treat - Smart E's
4) Roobarb & Custard - Shaft

I would love to be able to include Summer's Magic by Mark Summers which sampled the Magic Roundabout but I don't think it was ever released on CD and so hasn't made it into the digital world. If I ever find it, I'll post it. Here it is in Youtube form:
